Casa Mira Sol: A Harmonious Blend of Elegance and Ocean Views
At the Via Del Monte project, affectionately referred to as 'Casa Mira Sol' for its breathtaking views, our design journey began with a fairly neutral color palette. This choice was intentional; we didn't want to compete with the stunning ocean backdrop, but rather let it take center stage.
A Neutral Palette with Thoughtful Accents
Our primary colors were Benjamin Moore White Dove and Farrow & Ball Off-Black. This combination accentuates the marble-like quartz waterfall island, creating a focal point that complements rather than competes with the ocean views. To add depth and interest, we mixed metals and layered in textures, such as woven baskets and greenery. Textiles also played a crucial role, bringing in additional dimension and warmth.
Embracing Openness and Functionality
Originally, the kitchen design included upper cabinets. However, we quickly recognized that the openness of the kitchen needed to be a focal point. We aimed to introduce the warmth of wood, which would complement the fireplace mantle and create a balanced aesthetic. Balancing functionality and beauty is key; while it’s important to decorate your shelves, they also need to be practical.
We love incorporating everyday items like white dishes, greenery, herbs, cookbooks, and cutting boards. These not only serve functional purposes but also add to the overall aesthetic. When these elements are thoughtfully displayed, they enhance both the practicality and beauty of the space.
Thoughtful Display and Stylish Storage
Consider all the items you need on hand in your kitchen and display them thoughtfully in beautiful pieces. Line up glass jars on a shelf, use a handmade jug to hold kitchen utensils, and incorporate canisters of tea and coffee, salt and pepper shakers that tie in with the other styling elements. This approach ensures that everything is within reach and looks beautiful.
The Perfect Lighting
Choosing the right light fixtures was another important consideration. We sought a light that was sophisticated and bold, yet wouldn't distract from or block the views. The airy vibe of the lights we chose, with their brass finish, complements the warmth of the wood shelving and ties in with the cabinet hardware. This simple repetition of accent colors completes the look, confirming the cohesiveness and warmth of the kitchen while still enjoying the preeminent views.
Casa Mira Sol is a testament to the harmony between design and nature. By using a neutral color palette, thoughtfully chosen accents, and a mix of textures, we created a space that is both functional and beautiful. The ocean views remain the star of the show, enhanced by the subtle elegance of the kitchen design. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet morning coffee or hosting a lively dinner party, Casa Mira Sol offers a perfect blend of style and serenity.
